Side Gig in Mormon Literature Logistics

James Goldberg, a three-time Association for Mormon Letters Award Winner and past AML president, is looking for someone to help with the mental load of organizing Mormon literature projects. Here’s the job posting:

Over the past decade, there’s been a quiet flowering of Mormon literature. More titles, by a wider range of writers, are being published. More contests and events are being held. But because almost all the work that goes into Mormon literature is motivated by passion rather than pay, it’s easy for important to-dos to fall between the cracks whenever people get distracted or lose steam. The Mormon literature community needs people who can bring some consistency and stability by focusing on the logistics of producing and sharing art.

James Goldberg is a writer of Mormon literature who has also worked on efforts to support Mormon literature through the Mormon Lit Lab, Association for Mormon Letters, and Center for Latter-day Saint Arts. In this position, you’ll work with James to identify needs and set priorities, then support Mormon literature projects by:

  • Tracking project progress and to-dos
  • Following up, mostly by email, with writers, scholars, and volunteers on shared projects
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Helping document processes and organize documents
  • Hours: Work is fully remote, with two evening meetings per month and total flexibility otherwise as to when you get your work done. Anticipated workload is equivalent to 2-5 hours per week.

Pay: $300 per month.

The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills and a healthy mix of patience and persistence. Interest in Mormon literature is a plus but not required.
