The Association for Mormon Letters will hold its 2007 Writers Conference on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Salt Lake Community College Redwood Campus Student Center (4600 South Redwood Road). Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
With the theme “Leap into the Void,” the conference will feature well-known lampoonist and newspaper columnist Robert Kirby as its keynote speaker. Other speakers include Tim Slover, a playwright, screenwriter and educator whose plays have been performed off-Broadway and around the U.S. and Canada, and whose film, “A More Perfect Union,” was broadcast nationally on PBS; Rick Walton, a prolific childrens author whose many awards include the Childrens Choice award from the International Reading Association (1990); Margaret Blair Young, an author, filmmaker and educator who co-authored the trilogy of historical fiction about Black Mormon Pioneers titled “Standing on the Promises” in 2005, and whose television documentary based on the life of Jane Elizabeth Manning James appeared on PBS; and Chris Bigelow, who is not only an author but also the founder of local publishing house Zarahemla Books.
